On April 20 th, thirty years ago, the world of cinema welcomed the most endearing bittersweet comedy ever seen. Annie Hall is the paramount of Woody Allen´s career and a lovely tribute to his former lover Diane Keaton. Diane, who stars as Annie, brings charm, vulnerability and neurosis to perfection and an unforgettable smile to the silverscreen like nobody else did before her and certainly no one neither after Keaton. This film is such an outstanding masterpiece that is almost impossible not to be identify (at any point) with it.
Be in love with somebody and expirience the ups and downs of a relationship is its the touching subject matter. But most of all is watching these two people having fun (who can forget the lobster scene? ), arguing ( “ I am not getting my period, Jesus!”) or arriving at conclusions ( “Relationships, I think, is like a shark. It has to constantly moves forward or it dies”) are the moments which ultimately reach ours hearts.
Annie Hall was a trendsetter movie in many ways. Diane Keaton´s unique fashion style made a frenzy in the late seventies and early eighties. And not only her clothing was big buzz, but her enchanting mannerisms ( “ oh well, la di da, la di da, la la la”) made us hard not to fall in love with her. Woody Allen´s crafts were remarkable as well. When he talks to the camera, or brings Marshall Mcluhan out to the movies line only to prove his point, or uses the divided schrinks scenes, made an unprecedent achievement that only a genius like him could do it so easily and with elegance wit. After have seen Annie Hall so many times I still love this movie so profoundly because as its final scene – with Keaton´s sweetiest voice singing “ Seems like old times”- we all need the eggs.
Note: Annie Hall won four Academy Adwards: · Best Picture · Best Actress · Best Director · Best Screenplay written by Vanesa |
